Accumulation of chlamydial lipopolysaccharide antigen in the plasma membranes of infected cells.
The presence of a chlamydia-specified antigen associated with the plasma membrane of infected cell lines was demonstrated by indirect immunofluorescence staining with a monoclonal antibody, designated 47A2, specific for the chlamydial genus-specific lipopolysaccharide (LPS) antigen. Staining of HeLa, L-929, and McCoy cells infected with the L2 or F serovar of Chlamydia trachomatis was observed ...
متن کاملPremature apoptosis of Chlamydia-infected cells disrupts chlamydial development.
The obligate intracellular development of Chlamydia suggests that the bacteria should be vulnerable to premature host cell apoptosis, but because Chlamydia-infected cells are apoptosis resistant, this has never been able to be tested. We have devised a system to circumvent the apoptotic block imposed by chlamydial infection. When the proapoptotic protein Bim(S) was experimentally induced, epith...
متن کاملLocation of feline leukemia-sarcoma group-specific antigen in infected human tissue culture cells.
Feline leukemia-sarcoma group-specific antigens were located in human embryo cells infected with feline leukemia and feline sarcoma viruses. This was done by using the fluorescent-antibody and enzyme-labeled antibody techniques at both light and electron microscopic levels. The antigens were found to be exclusively intracytoplasmic, diffuse, and located in discrete punctate foci.
متن کاملFormation and destruction of internal membranes in L cells infected with Chlamydia psittaci.
L cells (mouse fibroblasts), uninfected and infected with Chlamydia psittaci (meningopneumonitis strain), were labeled with (14)C-amino acids, and their membranous organelles were separated by isopycnic equilibrium centrifugation of whole cell homogenates on discontinuous sucrose density gradients. Incorporation of labeled amino acids into host and parasitic proteins was differentiated on the b...
متن کاملInhibition of Deoxyribonucleic Acid Synthesis in Synchronized Populations of L Cells Infected with Chlamydia psittaci.
Infection of L cells with Chlamydia psittaci inhibited the burst of deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis that occurs when the host cells are released from a double thymidine block.
